Awards were given in five categories, three by age (4-11, 12-15, 16-19), one by subject area (maths and science) and a special award for the use of French, sponsored by last year's French Presidency of the EU.

The winners were selected from more than 500 projects for being particularly creative in using ICT, for being well integrated in the curriculum and for serving as model or inspiration for others.

Pupils and teachers in the winning projects will be invited to an eTwinning Camp in Greece, this April. Winners in the French category will receive a grant to study in France this summer.

Age category 4-11: Make a film and share IT with friends 2.0!

A joint project between two schools in Vindängen (Sweden) and Knockaclarig (Ireland), Make a film and share IT with friends 2.0!, won the award in the category for the youngest. Pupils teamed up to produce films on topics picked from the syllabus. They run their own blog where they share and discuss the films.

The jury said it had chosen the project for making good use of a number of ICT tools to create something that could work as a model for other schools and at different age levels.

Age category 12-15: No frontiers!

No frontiers! is a project Linking three schools from Sevilla (Spain), Liffré (France) and Semice (Czech Republic). Pupils created mathematical puzzles combining maths with cultural elements of their own countries, such as monuments and famous places.

Partners were challenged to calculate the height of Sevilla's landmark Giralda tower and to discover the name of a Czech town well hidden in a mathematical formula. Teachers of maths, English, arts and ICT were all involved in this project with the aim to challenge the creativity of pupils while at the same time boosting their skills in maths.

Age category 16-19: The Pizza Business across Europe

In this winning project eight schools from Portugal, Hungary, Romania, Italy, Latvia, Poland, and Bulgaria set out to investigate the pizza business across Europe. Not only did pupils look at how food habits and tastes have changed over the last fifty years, they also developed their own pizzeria business plans.

The jury praised the project for involving the participants in practical work and in discussing the real implementation of a novel idea - a fresh approach that was found to work well with an age group often seen as rather difficult. So great was the impact of the project on participants that some of them already run their own pizza business now!

Maths & Science category: Vesmír v škole, škola vo vesmíre (Space in school – school in space)

Pupils from Tvrdošín (Slovakia) and Kopřivnice (Czech Republic) used the Internet, email and digital media to learn about the universe, the solar system and its planets and exchange their knowledge. Together with their partner class they thought up stories about a cosmonaut and produced an English-Czech-Slovak dictionary of space.

One night at school created lasting impressions for children from both countries, when linked up via video conference they all observed an eclipse of the moon.

Special Prize, French Category: Mythes, légendes et contes de fées – moyens d'enrichir le langage des jeunes et la connaissance de l'autre(Myths, legends and fairy tales – how to enrich young pupils' language abilities and knowledge of the other)

Three schools from Romania, the Czech Republic and Poland set up this eTwinning project to wake their pupils' interest in learning languages. Besides their respective native tongues, the focus was on French as a foreign language. Pupils learned in a playful way by working together on fairytales, legends, myths and the cultural history of the partners.

This eTwinning project was the follow-up of a successful Comenius project.
