Teletopi, prize-giving and awards by a specialized jury to web televisions managed by citizens, represents one of AltraTV’s core activities. As an interuniversity project and non-profit association, AltraTV was founded in 2004 to monitor and review alternative forms of television in Italy and abroad. Over the years, AltraTV has compiled a database of TVs created by students and citizens, who produce and broadcast at very low cost, with passion and for informative and reporting purposes. At an annual meeting called Paesechevai, AltraTV gathers all the Italian web televisions run by citizens and, during 2009, will try to promote initiatives to reduce the digital divide in suburban areas.
