Malta Engineering Excellence Awards (MEEA) 2009

27.11.09 – 27.11.2009
The Malta Engineering Excellence Awards (MEEA) provide national recognition to individuals and/or organisations who have achieved outstanding engineering accomplishments that have had significant impact on engineering in the Maltese society. Awards are given for Innovation, Leadership and Lifetime Achievement.

The Chamber of Engineers (CoE) is once again holding the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards (MEEA). These awards are an opportunity to recognise engineering excellence in the areas of innovation and leadership and to recognise those who throughout their careers have contributed significantly to the development of Engineering and the engineering profession in Malta. The call for project submissions for the MEEAs 2009 will be launched on 24th August 2009. Submissions will then be evaulated by a team of experts and the awards ceremony will be held during the CoE’s annual reception in November. Every year, members of the Chamber, dignitaries, members of the engineering community and the press are invited for this event.

The Innovation award recognises engineering achievements that demonstrate original or innovative application of new and existing techniques or technologies. The 2009 MEEA award for Innovation will therefore go to that individual or organisation that demonstrates both engineering competence and outstanding creative skills. Nominated projects typically reflect a very demanding brief with the potential of a significant impact on society at large.

Nominations for the award for Innovation are assessed on their high degree of ingenuity in the development of a final product or service. Nominees are judged on the quality and effectiveness of engineering projects in their respective sector. Only those projects that show a high degree of creativity in the development of technological solutions or in the adaptation of existing technologies to create effective solutions can expect to be short-listed for the award.

The award for Leadership recognises exceptional leadership qualities in planning, implementing and directing engineering achievements of an outstanding nature. The Award also rewards efforts in the effectiveness in raising the level of engineering excellence and the promotion of the engineering profession, engineering industry and the engineering society. Finally, the award also recognises the contributions that these offer to the success of industry.

The prestigious Lifetime Achievement recognises engineers who have contributed significantly to the development of engineering in Malta. Nominees are judged on the extent and influence of their noteworthy impact on the local engineering community through personal initiative in the pursuit of engineering, their contribution towards the development and promotion of the profession and their active participation in the dissemination of acquired knowledge within the Maltese context.
