Imaginate 2009

31.03.09 – 31.03.2009
This exciting new design competition is addressed to 12-18 year-old secondary school students across Ireland. The students should use their imagination and creativity to "Design an object for the classroom of the future". Damini Kumar, the Competition Director, is Ambassador for the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009.

The competition is organised by the Product Design academic staff at NUI Maynooth.

The importance of encouraging creativity and innovation amongst second-level students cannot be overstated. Students across Ireland were asked to draw and describe their new design on a poster and send it in by the 11th February. Their creation could be any product, object or design that they thought could be used in the classroom of the future. Judges selected the top eight designs in each category.

The public can vote for their favourite design online between Friday 20th February and Friday 6th March.

All short-listed entries in both categories will be invited to our Award Ceremony at NUI Maynooth on the 31st March 2009 when the winners and runners up will be announced and the prizes and prototypes will be presented.

RTÉ will stream the awards on RTÉ.ie and will conduct a webchat following the ceremony.
